The Cohdoo Story
Simply put, we love creating things. We find nothing more fun than taking an idea from start to finish and watching the joy on other people's faces when it delights them. Over the years when we ran into situations where we didn't quite have the tools we needed, we created our own. They one day it hit us, other people might find these useful as well. And here we are. It all started around 2009, providing essentials to capture the spark of innovation, helping grow others ideas from infancy to maturity.
First there was Phone Doo. Created to assist with designing mobile apps, Phone Doo enabled you to quickly design, share and iterate your ideas all on a single surface. The dry erase material let you design, erase and iterate all on the same surface. The magnetic backing enabled the moving of ideas quickly from the table to wall for others to see. The faint grid helped layout content. They're a collectors item. Maybe you'll be lucky enough to find one stuck to an office whiteboard near you.
Next came our greatest hit… the award winning app Highlight. Highlight let you shine new light on recording user research, interviews, lectures and more. You simply started a recording, marking “aha” moments as you heard them. The Nielsen Norman Group called our offset feature, “Instant time travel.” Within seconds of an interview ending you could easily review insights, add notes and share recordings with the whole team. Playback the recording in whole, or instantly jump to marked highlights allowing you to quickly access key information and data.
Our Highlight Converter utility app let users quickly convert multiple Highlight recordings to .MP4 audio format all at once. Marked highlights, notes and other recording data could also be exported for use in other applications. It was as simple as drag and drop.
Finally, Highlight Player provided the rich recording playback peopled loved in Highlight for the Mac. This made it easier to spread the conversation, transcribe, and note take efficiently.
This chapter came to a close in 2014. It was tough, but priorities shifted. But now we're back… and better than ever. The next generation has taken the baton and they're running full steam ahead. Curious where the name Cohdoo come from? That's a story for another day. Let's just say it has come full circle. For those who have been with us the whole journey, thanks for the support.
